Young, Bold and Eager
There is a certain kind of sparkling poise in the way she conducts herself. Although she’s a fresher in the corporate world, her understanding of the industry is terrific. Meet Vasavi who’s currently working with South Indian bank as their Probationary Officer. She firmly believes that whatever happens, happens for the good. And she pours her heart and soul into whatever she does. In a conversation with Corporate Citizen, Vasavi shares about her educational journey, her campus placement experience, and shares a few tips for her juniors on how to prep for the campus placement, and more...
Born in Ranchi, Vasavi was raised in a humble family. And the virtues that her parents inculcated in her have shaped her into a better version of herself. “It certainly reflects in my decision-making process,” said a proud Vasavi.
The beginning
As a student, Vasavi preferred studying at the last minute, and guess what she still scored great marks. How we asked? “It is the courtesy of my grasping power. For me, learning is not about walking on the words. it’s more about grasping their soul. This is why I stood tall amongst the top scorers. Plus, as both my parents worked, I took it upon myself to study on my own. This taught me the importance of being independent and self-study.”
Changing times
Up until the 10th, Vasavi studied in the ICSE board, but for her plus 2, she took an admission to college where her mom taught. Now, that’s an added pressure, we said. “I know, right?” pat she replied. For some, the pressure might bog them down, but for Vasavi it inspires her to give her best. “It is up to us as to what we make of that pressure. Instead of stressing out, I worked harder and flared well. This experience encouraged me to take challenges head-on.”
Beyond studies
Education is not only about learning the facts, it is also about the training of the mind to think. “Rather it is beyond that too,” she quickly replied. “Agreed that studying is important, but students shouldn’t restrict their experience to just that. They should think further than that. They should enjoy the process, make new friends, understand who they are, take part in extracurricular activities and college fests,” she further added, “this process helps you build connections, gain valuable knowledge, and builds problem-solving ability and confidence.”
The learning continues
After completing her BBA from Birla Institute of Technology Lalpur Extension Ranchi, she moved to Pune to pursue her MBA in Telecom & Management. Talking about the great shift, Vasavi explained, “Sure the move was big. And the process was overwhelming, and to add to that, the college’s strict schedule added to the pressure, but I was prepared for it.” Being a part of the placement team provided an impetus to her knowledge and experience. “There surely were pros and cons of being a part of the placement team. I got enough know-how of the industry. But even after sitting for several companies, I couldn’t crack an interview. Yet, I showed patience and changed my approach. I learned to be picky is not always good. One should learn to make the right choices,” she said while adding, “And to add to that the CVOID and lockdown phase was too stressful. But our batch stuck together and stayed in touch, shared notes, and inspired all to stay positive and worked hard. And finally, the storm vanished and brought in the sunshine. That’s how I got placed with DTDC as their Territory Sales Manager.”
Vasavi did not stay there for long owing for several reasons, “I felt that logistics is a completely male-dominated field and I wanted to move past that. And the hygiene awareness at the DTDC offices was in shambles. Hence, moving on felt right.” South Indian Bank was a welcoming change, and I am loving my work here. Being a direct and bold person has helped her reach this far. “There’s still a long way to go,” she smiled.
