Work hard and good things will come your way
A daddy’s girl, Jyoti Raghav is always on the lookout to make her father proud. She is someone who believes that not achieving something is not the end of the world, that’s when your Plan B comes into the picture. She has learnt her biggest lesson during her campus placement, and she is eager to share them with her juniors. Jyoti is currently working as an Associate Site Merchandiser and Marketing Coordinator with Amazon, her dream company. In conversation with Jyoti as she shares her educational journey, campus placement experience, a bfew tips for her juniors on how to prep for the placement and more.
Jyoti was born in Haryana and owing to her father Hon Lt. Ramkumar Raghav’s Defence (Indian Navy) background, she got a chance to move around the country for her education. This she feels has been a boon and added value to her life. “As my father was in Defence, it was expected that even I follow the same path. And I was ready to take this challenge up. For me, it is important to make my parents happy, and I would do anything for it,” smiled Jyoti
There’s always a Plan B
As her father served in the Defence, it was expected that even she takes up the same career. Jyoti took it upon herself to bring this into reality. “I started preparing for the Air Force and the Army entrance while I was in the second year of my graduation. I had nothing to worry about as I was being guided by my father. I never took any coaching for the entrance. I studied online and followed my father’s instructions,” said Jyoti. But as luck may have it, she did not clear the entrance. “Sure, I was certainly sad that I couldn’t clear the AFCAT and CAD entrance. But I also knew this wasn’t the end of the world. That is when I realised the importance of Plan B. In life, at times, things won’t work your way. But that does not mean you give up. You will have to do is find an alternative. This thinking builds resilience and inspires you to undergo anything situation in life,” she added.
Her Plan B was to take up MBA and make it big in the corporate world. “In one way or the other, I had to make my parents proud.” Talking about her journey so far, she expressed, “I have realised that anything is possible in life. I was an average student in school. And if an average student like me can grow up to work for a company like Amazon, nothing is impossible in life.”
Her placement saga
After completing her BCom from Visakhapatnam, Jyoti moved to Pune to pursue her MBA. “I somewhere knew that I would be good at marketing,” she smiled. When she started her MBA, her aim was to gather as much knowledge as possible and get a good placement. And she tried her best in doing so. She was able to gather a lot of knowledge, but somewhere went wrong in her approach. Talking about her placement experience, she said, “Instead of streamlining an industry and company, I sat for all the companies. I intended to become a pro at GD/PI by doing so. This approach backfired, and I was proved wrong. Instead of acing those rounds, being rejected got my morale down. In total, I sat for 20 companies. So, I urge my junior to decide on their dream company and work towards getting that or else things will go haywire.”
Finally, she breathed a sigh of relief when got placed with OneAssist Consumer Solutions, Gurgaon, as their Management Trainee. The exposure helped her grow leaps and bounds. There her role was to explain services and products to customers in a friendly and engaging way. After working there for a year. Jyoti moved to Amazon. And since then there is no looking back. “Never lose hope when things don’t work your way. Work hard and good things will come your way,” saying this, she signed off!
