In an exclusive interview with Corporate Citizen, she talks about her holistic wellness philosophy and how she maintains work-life balance.
Corporate Citizen: What is your philosophy on wellness?
Sunita Dube: I personally believe in the fitness goal of keeping yourself contained with optimism and pleasant thoughts. This is my philosophy of Wellness. Through Medscape India we have participated in a number of public awareness projects focusing on holistic health. In today’s frantic world, being physically strong is not enough; you must also be emotionally, psychologically, and financially stable. One bad thinking can derail an individual’s overall development, thus taking a 360-degree look is essential.
CC: Your mantra for keeping fit?
I am aware of my strengths, limitations, desires, and goals since understanding ourselves makes it easier to find solutions. I also keep a close eye on my lifestyle and eating habits, as we need to be psychologically fit to get through any difficult conditions in my line of work. When I have free time, I pray, spend quality time with my family, and do tiny things like demonstrating gratitude and sharing love around the world. Basically, finding peace is my main fitness mantra, ensuring no negative thoughts can bring me down.
CC: What keeps you fit and healthy?
It is entirely dependent on the lifestyle you have created for yourself. As an MD, radiologist, and healthcare entrepreneur, I am frequently on tight timelines. I keep a close check on what is going on and have extremely hectic schedules. I am a huge gourmet freak who enjoys eating a lot but also enjoys eating healthy foods. My diet consists primarily of juices and salads. Coconut water is my favourite, plus vegetarian and home-cooked foods are the greatest, thus your fitness and mental stability are determined by your eating habits. Physically, I am always active and make sure I get enough exercise, my favourites being kickboxing, skipping and walking, keeping count of everything. I feel more energetic after getting enough rest, which is 6-7 hours of sleep which acts as a booster for healthy and active lifestyle.
CC: How do you like to rejuvenate and recharge and de-stress?
Nowadays, life has become so hectic and demanding that you must find ways to relieve stress. As each person has their own way of reliving, I prefer to travel, explore new places, connect with nature, and fully immerse myself in it. However, this is not always possible. Second is music, I have a diverse musical taste that spans many languages, and believe it or not, I also love video games. When it comes to stress busting, I practise meditation and always make sure I am connecting with my friends, having a great chat expressing myself, speaking my heart out in front of closed ones and I am also fond of movies especially those that are motivating and gives you reason to rise and fight. These are my favourite ways to rejuvenate myself.
CC: Do you play any game which helps you in your work? What are the lessons the game teaches for life?
Since I was a child, I’ve been driven to sports. I still watch car and bike races and occasionally play indoor games like chess, which improves my decision-making ability and helps me build the confidence I need to succeed in my profession. I participate in kick boxing matches with my trainer and other teammates which allows me to realise my full potential and refreshes me after each match. Every sport has its own set of criteria for winning or losing, and the life lessons the game teaches are extremely important. When we win, we are satisfied with our playing style and confidence. However, when we lose, we allow our minds to accept defeat with dignity and admire other players’ abilities in the game. This is the most fascinating lesson we can gain from sports. Even if we lose in the game, we should always make sure we are winning someone’s respect, which is a very wonderful aspect of the sport, in my opinion.
CC: What is your food philosophy?
What we eat and drink has a significant impact on our personality, both physically and mentally, it is crucial for this generation to grasp food philosophy in order to improve their health. Almost every ingredient in your kitchen functions as medication, whether it’s turmeric, black pepper, or honey. Indian cuisine is one of my favourites. With all of the necessary elements, Indian cuisine has proven to be the best in the world. Second, it is dependent on the person who prepares and serves the meal. The person who prepares the food also transmits emotion, which is why when a mother prepares the food, the child receives all of the necessary love and nutrients. Consuming food with a proper thought process is also beneficial. Having the right meal at the right time is the most vital factor for good health.
"My journey has been both innovative and thrilling, and every member of my family has a strong desire to overcome obstacles. I am the curator of my own route"
- Sunita Dube
CC: Your exercise fundamentals?
It depends on the individual; some people prefer cardio, cycling, or simply strolling. We must examine our own body’s requirements. We should also ensure that the exercise we are doing contributes to muscle strengthening, body growth, and a stable mental state. When it comes to exercising, we have to ensure that we are getting adequate relaxation after a strenuous workout to cope with the energy. A good supper is also very important after a workout.
CC: What message would you like to give to youngsters on time management, hobby management, profession management?
Every field has its own set of difficulties. Nowadays, I observe young people who are lacking patience, discipline, and desire in some way. If you truly want to attain your goals, you must go through a difficult process that includes strict schedules and a disciplined lifestyle. Only then will you be able to create what you want. Always keep track of your progress, downsides, and attempt to eliminate negative habits gently and gradually. Nobody can de-motivate a self-motivated individual. Success is not a permanent state; we must go through this process in order to become mature in life. In terms of professional management, if you love your job, you won’t have to manage it since you’ll naturally make sure you’re giving it your all and have a thorough understanding of it. So give it your best and always be a great learner. You have to switch off and switch on every time. Having a structured schedule is the most important thing.
CC: How has your journey been?
My journey has been both innovative and thrilling, and every member of my family has a strong desire to overcome obstacles. I am the curator of my own route; I chose this field where I learn a lot every day and my perspective on life is changing more than ever. I have wonderful family members who always encourage me to reach my full potential; I am grateful to God. And when you’re surrounded by positive individuals who inspire you to achieve your goals, it’s much easier to cope and succeed because you have a burning drive to succeed.
CC: What is your philosophy of work?
As a physician who specialises in radiology, I have developed my own work philosophy. Concentrating on what you’re doing saves time and eliminates the need to redo work later. Try to give your work your all attention, always take one role at a time, don’t overburden yourself with tasks, and say no to some of the work at times. Rather than performing ten separate things with clutter, focus on one thing completely, and this idea applies to all fields. Your results will naturally be excellent if you concentrate on what you’re doing. Try to focus entirely on what you’re doing. Me and my team has launched many campaigns such as Fit Maharashtra campaign, Medscape India for the welfare of citizens we make sure we are giving proper time and effort to the projects so that they should be successful and remarkable.
CC: Five tips to maintain Work-Life Balance
- Communication: Communication is crucial in the workplace; talk with your coworkers and your employer about work, but don’t go overboard.
- Schedule your time: Whether it’s Aryan Hospital, any public camp, or my Zoom meetings, my time is meticulously organised. Everything is on time, and if something goes wrong, I make sure to spend that time relaxing.
- Be aware of your capabilities: You must be highly calculative when it comes to your capabilities. Once you are aware of your potential, it is much easier to manage your job life and structure it properly.
- Respect other people’s time: The most important thing is to respect other people’s time at work. Arriving at work 10 minutes early and having communication with coworkers makes you feel at ease. Value other people’s time if you want yours to be respected.
- Be sorted: Don’t take on any work that seems like a hardship; if it appears like a burden, then something about it isn’t right. Always be sorted and settle in life.
