"New Zealand as a country, stands out for its natural beauty. When you are there, you can completely submit yourself to the gorgeous surroundings"

Corporate Citizen: Which is your favourite holiday destination?
Rushika Kothari: My favourite holiday destination is New Zealand. I went there for my honeymoon and fell in love with the country. The beautiful landscapes, the green surroundings and the way nature just takes over is mesmerising.
CC: When did you visit last?
My last visit was in January 2017 and I do plan to go back as soon as it’s safe to travel again, of course.
CC: What do you like about the place?
New Zealand as a country, stands out for its natural beauty. When you are there, you can completely submit yourself to the gorgeous surroundings. What I love is that you can drive in any direction and hit a scenic spot that will not disappoint you. From mountainous landscapes to geothermal spas, there’s something that will take your breath away in every town. There is also the right amount of cultural and touristic spots giving you enough to do without being too overwhelming. Plus, the city of Auckland adds in an extra dimension where you can enjoy the popular Sky Tower as well as explore some really well-done museums.
My absolute favourite thing about this country was that it’s largely connected by road and the drives from one town to another can be breathtaking and straight out of a postcard. Also, the people in this country are warm and welcoming, especially with tourists which makes you feel at home instantly. Finally, the adventure sports the country offers are a great addition for adrenaline junkies. So, a visit to New Zealand can give you a well-rounded holiday experience with a little bit of everything you are looking for.
CC: Tell us the highlights of the destination, what should not be missed, what do you recommend to see and do?
According to me what not to miss:
Auckland’s Sky Tower: This is a touristic hotspot and should be on everyone’s itinerary when in Auckland. There’s a casino there as well for those that would like to soak in the nightlife.
Auckland’s Quay Street: The restaurants on Quay Street are vibrant and full of life, especially at nights. There’s something on offer for any cuisine you’re looking for!
Waitomo Caves: This must make it to your things-to-do list when in New Zealand. The experience is not just beautiful because of the glow worms but also quite adventurous because of the trek you must make to the caves.
Bungee jumping: New Zealand is known for its adventure sports and if you’re someone who likes an adrenaline rush, you should go bungee jumping. New Zealand has some of the iconic spots in the world for taking the plunge.
Queenstown: This is the adventure capital of New Zealand and there’s plenty to do in terms of activities such as Shotover Jet, Skippers Canyon Jet, Skyline Gondola, Milford Sound and more.
Rotorua: There’s a lot to do here from bungee jumping, ziplining and hiking to hot geothermal spas and pools, mud pools and geysers. Spend at least a day in Rotorua.
Downtown Wellington: This is a great town to explore by walking. A highlight and something not to miss is the Museum of New Zealand.
CC: Which restaurants do you like to visit over there? Why?
Most of the vegan restaurants in Auckland such as ‘Gorilla Kitchen’ or ‘Kaiaroha’ are a must-visit. Also, some of the roadside burger shacks and cafes offer a wide range of burger combinations that pack a punch.
CC: Which are the good hotels to stay there? Which is your favourite hotel to stay?
The budget-friendly hotels such as Holiday Inn or Ibis are perhaps the best picks for travellers as they are not only affordable but are also conveniently located. One of my favourite places to stay, that was slightly more indulgent was, Millbrook Resort in Arrowtown, which is a luxurious golf and spa resort surrounded by luscious greenery. It’s a short drive away from Queenstown-a popular touristic town and is also known for some fantastic wineries and vineyards.
CC: Three tips you can give to fellow travellers about New Zealand.
Take a road trip: New Zealand is best when travelled by road. I strongly recommend renting a car and taking a trip from North to South.
Choose affordable living: It’s wise to save money on accommodation by choosing boutique hotels or budget-friendly hotels rather than a 5-star luxury hotel. You’d rather be spending on sight-seeing and adventure sports.
Apply for your tourist visa in advance: It’s recommended to get your visa procedure done well ahead of time as the embassy experiences a high volume of applications during peak seasons.
CC: According to you, how can that destination be improved?
wouldn’t change a thing about this place! The fact that it’s so authentic is what makes it so special.
CC: What can other destinations learn from that place?
Preserving natural beauty as much as possible so that touristic destinations aren’t exposed to the point that they lose their authenticity.
CC: Any offbeat experience of your holiday over there which you can share with our readers?
One of the days we were booked for the ‘Legendary Black Water Rafting’ in Waitomo Caves and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life. If you are someone who likes a little bit of adventure and doesn’t mind getting your hands dirty, this is something that you must do! I can’t recommend it enough and I promise you the glowworms are like nothing you’ve seen before.
CC: What kind of a traveller are you-planning well or more impulsive?
I’m more of a planned traveller and I do like to have an itinerary in place with most of the details of the trip locked down well in advance. Especially, when it comes to accommodation and flights, I like to be in control as much as possible.
CC: Lastly, what tops your mind when you travel-sightseeing, food or shopping?
It would have to be the right balance between sightseeing and food. I think experiencing the local cuisine of any new country is exhilarating and is one of the best ways to connect with their culture.
CC: Define yourself in one sentence
I truly believe in the principle of work hard, play hard, so I think it’s important to switch off from time to time and go all out when you’re on a holiday
