You Become As You Think!
One of the fundamental laws of life is that ‘Energy follows thought’. As we think, so we become. If we fear a fall there is a possibility that we shall truly fall. To put it simply, we become what we think. Hence we should be very careful with our thoughts
Today, scientists are beginning to understand the value and power of what is called ‘thought energy’. They are beginning to study what our ancient rishis knew thousands of years ago. They taught their students Jignasus that a fundamental law of life is: “You become as you think.”
I am happy that this truth has been reaffirmed in our days by influential thinkers and scientists. One of the fundamental laws of life is that ‘Energy follows thought’. As we think, so we become. If we fear a fall there is a possibility that we shall truly fall. To put it simply, we become what we think. Hence, we should be very careful with our thoughts.
Thoughts have an inherent capacity to materialise. I thought of the sage who remarked, “That man is happy, who thinks the happiest thoughts.” I have always said to my friends: Thoughts are things, thoughts are forces, thoughts are the building blocks of life. Therefore we must keep our thoughts clean. Whatever we think about, we bring about.
If we wish to be happy, we must unclutter our ‘house’ the house of our heart. We must throw out all the joy-killers, the negative thoughts of greed, ill will, jealousy, malice and envy. But throwing these out is not enough we must fill our mind with happy thoughts thoughts of purity, prayer, sympathy, service and sacrifice, love and kindness, prosperity and peace, success and victory.
We are so obsessed about external cleanliness that we tend to neglect what’s on the inside, don’t we? And what is inside is far more important, isn’t it?
Let me tell you a story about why the inside matters more than outside...
A little black boy who was at a country fair was watching a man fill multi coloured balloons with helium gas and let them up. The balloons rose higher and higher, filled with a gas that was lighter than air.
We are so obsessed about external cleanliness that we tend to neglect what’s on the inside
“I bet the black balloons will not go up as high as the white ones,” said the boy wistfully.
“Watch now, son,” said the kind man. He blew up a black balloon and filled it with helium and let it go. It soared up just as high as the others.
“It isn’t the colour of the balloon that matters,” he said to the boy. “It’s what’s inside the balloon that really matters.”
When your mind and heart are uncluttered, when they are filled with light, joy-giving thoughts, your spirit too, can soar high!
Scientists tell us that a magnetised piece of steel can lift up iron particles that weigh several times its weight; but if the same piece of steel is demagnetised, it cannot even lift so much as a feather’s weight. When you unclutter your mind and cleanse your thoughts, you are magnetising your mind. You will find that confidence, hope and optimism fill your mind and you will achieve success and happiness.
When your mind is filled with negative emotions, you become insecure and fearful. You are overcome by negative thought patterns, “I may fail,” or “I may lose my money,” or “People may laugh at me,” and so on.
This kind of thinking weighs you down. You let opportunities and chances slip by; you are afraid to make bold moves; you begin to stagnate...
You are a precious and unique being! Your life has a purpose and a meaning. How can you allow your life to be weighed down by joy-killers?
Fill your mind with positive thoughts! But remember, positive thoughts cannot dwell in a cluttered mind, any more than a delicate plant can thrive in a closed, dark jar in a dry and dusty corner. Therefore, begin to believe in God, in the goodness of the heart, in the beauty and the order of the vast universe. Believe in the eternal truths and values upheld by our ancient scriptures the values of satya, dharma and ahimsa. Such thoughts will help your consciousness to expand. The doors and windows of your mind will be opened, and you will feel the joyous winds of liberation blowing within!
