The world is hers to explore
She is a keen observer and tries to simplfy each thing that comes her way. Tanvi Parekh carries a pocket full of dreams and hopes to achieve them all. Her desire to explore and her attitude of flowing like a seamless river has taken her places. Currently working for her dream company – ICICI Bank as their Deputy Manager has made her fall in love with the finance industry all over again. In a conversation with Corporate Citizen, she shares her journey, a few tips for her juniors on how to prepare for campus placement and more
A small-town girl with dreams-Tanvi Parekh had pulled up socks to make it big in the corporate world. Tanvi was born and raised in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. The town was tiny, however, her will to fly high never restricted her to its boundary. “Fearing the unknown, leaves one sulking in their comfort zone. I wanted to explore and try new things. My family always supported this dream of mine. And what I am today is the result of that!” she expressed.
A BALANCED CHILD
Striking the right balance between studies and extra-curricular activities ensures growth and helps one in leading a content life. Growing up, Tanvi followed her sister’s footsteps to achieve the best. “I was both studious and a naughty student. My mother always taught me to lead a balanced childhood. I scored good grades and at that same time, I spent enough time on the field and learning new skills. Mugging up the concepts will bring no good to you, instead, I invested my time in understanding them. And the results were outstanding,” explained Tanvi.
Now, when it came to studying, Tanvi was one of the top students. Talking about her method of studying, she said, “Frankly, as a student, I usually studied a night before the exam. That’s because the concepts were clear in my mind. And for that, I not only attended the lectures but paid keen attention to what the professors taught. Later, during the exams, I scrolled the internet to strengthen my subject knowledge. And this method fetched me good grades.”
DIFFICULT BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE
Change begins at the end of your comfort zone. And Tanvi for all knows the importance of pushing the boundaries. Her decision to move out of Mandsaur to a budding city like Ahmedabad for her further education transformed her life. “Of course, the shift was difficult to handle at first. New city, new friends, new life-it was a whole new world for me. Eventually, I got the hang of it. All through this change, my grades were not hampered. In fact, I topped the course. With consistency and determination, life has come a full circle,” smiled Tanvi.
Tanvi has a fond affection for Math. The only subject that bothered her was Economics. “Come what may, I never liked Economics as a subject. However, while completing my majors in Finance, I gave this subject a chance. Instead of ignoring it, I tried to understand this topic. Now, Economics and I go hand in hand,” she smiled, “The charm of giving something a try is amazing. Instead of running away from it, learn to face it.”

READY FOR THE CORPORATE WORLD
After completing her graduation in Finance from Ahmedabad, she moved to Pune to pursue her PGDM in the same specialisation. “Pune was again new to me. But this time I had an idea of how to handle the change,” she said. Tanvi knew her niche was Finance, and she gave her best to get placed with the top company in the industry. Talking about her campus placement experience, she said, “The first company that I sat for was HCL. Unfortunately, I could not get through for some reasons. However, I learnt from the experience. Aptitude and group discussion rounds are my forte. I somewhere lacked in the personal interview round. From the feedback, I realised that I lacked confidence. And I was ready to give my best for the next company. I made the utmost use of the net to study for placements.”
Come ICICI Bank and she had a hunch that she will be selected. Before sitting for this company, Tanvi burnt the midnight oil, as she knew it was now or never. She explained, “After dinner, my friends and I rehearsed and discussed the current topics. I changed the way I spoke and my attitude as well. And within a few days, I was a changed person.” As she sparkled during the ICICI Bank personal interview, good days awaited her. The same day she got the great news, and Tanvi was all set to enter the corporate world in style.
She works with the Mumbai branch, and she has completely fallen in love with this new city. Each day is a learning experience for her. She hopes to climb the ladder of success with hard work and cannot wait to see what is in store for her in the coming days.
