Find your flow and success will follow
Learning from the obstacles in life, Priyam Paul found his flow and now success is following him. He operates on three main features discipline, dedication, and hard work. As he incorporated these learnings during his internship, he was offered a pre placement offer. Currently working with Signature International Food India Private Ltd. as their Area Sales Manager, Priyam shares his journey so far, learnings and a few tips on how to prepare for the campus placement
Tucked in the hilly regions of North East lies a small yet significant town of Agartala. The capital of Tripura, Agartala, which is Priyam’s hometown, is known for its heritage, deep-rooted culture, scenic attractions and more. The people there are warm, humble, and open to change. Incidentally, Priyam has all these qualities. And the one thing that Priyam’s parents taught him was to be a good human. “Being a good and responsible human is an important trait. Rest everything is secondary. My parents told me the tales that glorified these values. The thing is, once you become a good human, things will automatically work in your favour,” explained Priyam, as he further added, “By being a good human we understand the various facets of life. And this perception helped me grow and came to aid during my college days and especially, now when I am in the corporate world.”
THE EVOLUTION
As a child, Priyam was an ideal boy, courtesy of his parents’ teachings. Although he was an average student, understanding various concepts with ease came naturally to him. The one thing that always stayed with him is the fact that there is no shortcut to success. Agreed Priyam, “I always believe that hard work will shower you with sweet fruits of success. Nothing in life comes easy. Even to get average marks, I had to study religiously. Hence, I know and understand the worth of working hard.”
An exemplar for others yet naughty at times, Priyam’s life underwent a drastic change when he shifted to a boarding school in Purulia, West Bengal. Talking about this life-changing experience, he said, “I must have been around 8 or 9-years-old when I began my boarding school journey. And what I am today is the result of the time I spent in this school. The experience I gained there made me understand human behaviour and that comes in handy when I am handling several projects today. And getting out of my comfort zone taught me several valuable lessons as well.”
He regards his journey like the flow of a river sparkling, choppy at times and calm. “The shift to the boarding school was a huge change for me. But within no time I learnt to adapt. I learnt from every situation and moulded myself as per that. But most importantly, like a river, I found my path to flow,” he expressed.
FLOWING SEAMLESSLY
To broaden his horizon, Priyam moved to Chennai to complete his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.). After that, he pursued his MBA in Marketing from a college in Pune. Amidst shifting to Pune, Priyam was placed in a company after his graduation. Explaining why he chose to pursue his higher education instead of continuing to work with the company, he said, “There is a time for everything is life. Although I was placed in a good company after my graduation, I felt there is a lot more to my educational journey. I wanted to learn as much as I can before settled in well in the corporate world. I needed more of the theoretical knowledge before my practical experience began.”

SHINING BRIGHT
During his post-graduation days, Priyam interned with Signature International Foods India Ltd. He knew it was his time to shine and that it was now or never. “As per me, internships are highly crucial. It is a gateway to the corporate world. And if you do well during your internship then nothing can stop. Internships are an opportunity to learn more about yourself and it also provides a first hand exposure of working in the real world,” he said, as he further added, “During the internship, I did everything that I was asked to do. Even if I lacked a tad bit in sales, my manager saw my zeal and my urge to work hard regardless of the situation. And that is the reason why I bagged the pre-placement offer,” he smiled.
Before bagging the internship, Priyam thoroughly researched about the company and the industry that he’d be working for. And that gave him the upper hand during the personal interview. It has been two years since he is working with this organisation. Currently, he handles the eastern region. And though he works remotely, his peers completely trust him owing to his ideal behaviour, he felt. Talking about his future, he expressed, “I wish to grow steadily in this organisation. Each day is a new learning experience and hope that I make the most of this. But largely, I wish to do things for the betterment of this country.”
As Priyam Paul settles well in the corporate world, he passes on a few tips for his juniors on how to prepare for campus placement and much more…
Carve your path: There is no set formula to ace an exam. What works for one, might not work for others. An important part of life is to take risks, even when the path is unclear. Be confident, see what works for you, make mistakes, and carve your path.
No shortcut for success: Enough is said about this, but this is the fact. There is no shortcut to success only your hard work and passion to learn will take you far. And without these two virtues, you will never reach your goal.
Be real: During the personal interview or group discussion rounds, you don’t have to be perfect or a know it all; you just have to be your true self. Be real! Support your answers with real life experiences. Be humble and accept it when you don’t know the answer, be curious to learn more.
Learn from your failures: Not always will you crack the interview or get through the placement rounds in the first go. When things don’t work your way, assess your failures, learn from your mistakes. This is what will define your character and will show you a clear path.
Have conviction: That path to getting placed during campus placement is paved with hardships. It’s your conviction and patience that will help you cross all the obstacles. To build your conviction you should do thorough research, understand the market, take advice and be smart enough to learn from everyone.
