Playing The Game Of Life With A Sporting Spirit
Once a person plays any sport, its ethics always stays with him forever. And one of them is the sportsperson spirit. Tripti Sahu swears by this virtue. “It is this spirit that gives me an assurance that I will make it big in the corporate world,” expressed Tripti. Currently working with the Deloitte USI as their Associate Solution Advisor, she hopes to climb the ladder of success with her hard work and determination. She candidly spoke with the Cor porate Citizen magazine
A good listener, budding traveller and artist, skilled communicator, automation tester and data researcher; the hues to Tripti are endless. And it is nice to know that this generation is growing up to lead such a life. So, how did you groom yourself to become what you are today, we asked. She patiently heard the question, took her time to comprehend what she was going to say, and then she calmly responded, “This is what taking up sport does to you!” She smiled while saying, “It makes you calm and composed while boarding your horizons endlessly. Even if the person stops playing a sport, you cannot remove the sportspersonship spirit out of the person.” Since a young age, Tripti practised the art of judo and karate. Her good performance has helped her receive several awards. And now when she ventures into the corporate world, the correlation between the corporate world and the sports realm seems quite real to her.
On her toes
Even though she was born and raised in a small town of Bhatapara, Chhattisgarh, Tripti always dreamt of achieving the best. Owing to her strict schedule, growing up, Tripti excelled at both studies and sports. “As a kid, my day used to be packed. I used to be occupied with a lot of things school, sports, homework and then family time. Leading a disciplined life as a child has made me what I am today,” she said. Further adding, “I knew studies are important is why I would pay keen attention during the lectures. And in doing so, I would get enough time to play judo and karate.”
As a child, she would rise at 5 am giving her more than enough time to achieve her target for the day. It is this schedule that led to her win a black belt in karate while representing her state at the Judo Nationals.
"For me, both practical and theoretical knowledge is important. One’s success completely depends on these two"
Steering forward
After her BTech in Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering, she had a brief stint with Accenture, Hyderabad, where she worked as an Associate Software Engineer. Talking about the experience there, she said, “Within a few months of working there, I realised that I am a people’s person which led me to take up an MBA course. I understood that having expertise in technical and management will be an ideal reagent for leading a great corporate career.”
Her work experience before starting her MBA in Telecom and Management surely gave her an upper hand. “For me, both practical and theoretical knowledge is important. One’s success completely depends on these two (practical and theoretical knowledge). Once you apply the theories, you have learnt aptly moving forward in the corporate world becomes easy,” she explained.
The prep begins…
Being part of the placement team had given Tripti an idea of how things functioned. “As I was an active member of the placement team, within no time, I saw that my communication skills were improving. And I was sure that this virtue will come in handy during the GD and PI rounds.”
Talking about the preparations for the campus placement, she informed, “The latest technology brings the world at your feet. I went through the everyday happenings in the market which gave me an idea of what to expect from the interview. When it came to the aptitude round, I solved most of the question papers that were available online. When I cross-checked the answers, I realised where I lacked and I worked on those points.” Further adding, “Being a good listener and a speaker is a good virtue. And it paid off for me during the GD and PI round. I did not rush into answering any questions. I took my time and answered them confidently.”

Bull’s eye
Tripti appeared for only one company during the campus placement, and courtesy of her consistency, she got through it within the first attempt. She had been eyeing Delliote since a long and it had become her goal to get through it. Her interview went for a good one hour. And it was an experience of a lifetime. “Although the interview went on for 50 minutes, it went on pretty smoothly I must say. As handcrafting is one of my fortes, the interviewee made me come with a craft while answering their questions. They kept shooting the questions one after the other. But I did not lose my focus. I multitasked by completing the art and answered them all their questions at the same time. I guess that is what grabbed their attention. And that’s how I got through my dream company,” she expressed.
It’s been more than a year since Tripti is working with Deloitte USI as their Associate Solution Advisor. She is having the time of her life as she gets to learn new things each day. The one thing she cannot stress enough on is the correlation between corporate life and sports. “Sports and a good corporate career have a lot in common. Both stress on teamwork, hard work, dedication, time management and consistency. The more I spend time at work, the more I can correlate between these two entities.”
As her days are getting pretty hectic due to the workload, she hardly gets any time to indulge in any sport. Expressing her dreams, she said, “I do want to excel as much as possible in this company. With that, I wish to travel and explore the world once things come back to normal. Visiting Kerala and Kashmir is on my bucket list.”
