Do not let those little desires disturb you
"The yogi experiences “Wow, great!” every moment, because he is in touch with the source of joy deep within. Nothing comes without a price. You need to make a little effort and the effort is moderation, balance and restraint from other small desires to attain something big"
What happens when you take your mind away from the little desires and thoughts that disturb you? Where there is no wind blowing, the flame of the candle is stationary. In the same way, your mind remains stationary, focussed. Your mind becomes like a laser beam
With the power of yoga, many abilities will dawn in you. You will become more powerful. Even to enjoy the best, you need to have merit or ability, and yoga gives you that ability. In that state, the yogi is in bliss. He enjoys everything he is doing. He loves the state he is in; he is intoxicated, enjoying the bliss of the self. Joy is the nature of our spirit.
Whenever we feel happy, in those moments consciously or unconsciously, we get in touch with our spirit. For a fraction of a moment, we get in touch with the spirit, but then we think it is because of objects that we were happy.
When you first hear music from a flute, there is a thrill that rises in you, or when you see beautiful scenery and you say “Wow!” In that moment of “Wow!” for a fraction of a second, your mind becomes blank, you do not feel your body, you do not feel where you are, what you are.
That moment, whether it is from food or sight, sound, touch, smell at that moment you are getting in touch with the Self. So things are beautiful, enjoyable, pleasant, but forgetting that inner state, if we hold on just to the object, in a few minutes, it no longer gives us that much pleasure or joy. While you think, “This object is giving me pleasure”, a little while later the same thing turns out to be painful.
Then, we continue as a habit, without getting that initial “Wow, great!” But the yogiexperiences “Wow, great!” every moment, because he is in touch with the source of joy deep within. Nothing comes without a price. You need to make a little effort and the effort is: moderation, balance and restraint from other small desires to attain something big.
When your mind is in turmoil
One disciple came to Buddha and said, ‘My mind is full of turmoil. I feel so guilty, I feel so bad, I feel so this and that’, and he just said a lot of things. And Buddha just told him to go and get some water from a pond.
So he went there and saw the pond was so muddy. He said, ‘Lord the water is so muddy, I can’t get it.’
Buddha smiled and said why don’t you try again. So this man went on and on. A little while later Buddha told him again to go get some water. The disciple said, ‘but it was all muddy’.
Buddha said, ‘no, go and get the water.’So when Buddha insisted he had no other choice but to just go.
When he went there, by that time the water had already settled and it was clear. He brought the glass of water and gave Buddha. Buddha looked at the disciple and smiled and the disciple got the answer.
So when your mind is muddled, just give it some time and it will settle, it will become clear.
Unfortunately, we have so many books written, so many concepts on how to love yourself and make the guilt go away and blah, blah, blah.
I don’t think it will help in the long run, even if it has for a short time.
Trying to repair the emotions, correct the emotions, this is all a useless phenomenon and it only makes it worse.
There is a saying in Sanskrit; suppose you have a wound and you go on scratching the wound, it’s not going to get better. Every time you scratch it you make it worse.
This is exactly what you are doing, you try to get rid of this thing or that thing or feel better about yourself, love yourself or not love yourself. All this is useless. What you are doing here is the best, do yoga, meditate, become hollow and empty and everything else is taken care of.
