Work-Life Harmony
With a profound background in pharmaceutical research and an unwavering commitment to innovation, Nikkhil K Masurkar, serves as the CEO of ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, a pioneering specialty research-based pharmaceutical company. He talks about his work philosophy and how he maintains work-life balance
Corporate Citizen: How do you set your priorities to maintain a balance between work and personal life?
Nikkhil K Masurkar: I don’t believe in the conventional idea of work-life balance. Instead, I believe in work-life harmony. Life is singular, and within it lie multiple priorities—whether professional or personal. I believe in responding to these priorities based on what feels right at that moment. It’s all about doing what is most meaningful and relevant at the right time.
CC: While constantly on the move, what helps you stay calm and composed?
Practising yoga twice a day, especially Pranayama and deep breathing exercises, has helped me tremendously. These techniques bring about a deep sense of calm and mindfulness. Whether I’m in a high-pressure boardroom meeting or facing challenges in personal life, these practices help me remain composed and make better, more thoughtful decisions without rushing into something that might seem ill-advised later.
CC: What keeps you fit and healthy? Can you share your secret to staying mentally cool and calm?
Over the past five years, I’ve transitioned to a fully vegan lifestyle, completely eliminating meat and dairy from my diet. For the past year, I’ve also adopted a “one main meal a day” approach, which has brought about remarkable health benefits. This shift has helped detoxify my body and significantly improved my overall wellness.
My fitness routine is simple yet effective: daily cardio and core workouts, with no reliance on heavy weights or expensive gym memberships. It’s not about intensity or complexity—it’s about consistency, discipline, and making health a daily habit.
CC: What are your go-to stress busters? How do you rejuvenate and recharge?
Depending on the situation, I unwind by watching short and engaging content like reels or YouTube videos to divert my mind. Then, I follow it up with breathing exercises and a brief pause. This helps reset my thoughts and brings the clarity I seek to navigate my day-to-day life efficiently. Taking time to pause and reflect often makes issues—as and when they crop up—feel less overwhelming and helps me recharge mentally.
CC: Five key tips that help you maintain work life balance
Embrace work-life harmony – Don’t compartmentalise life; focus on blending your priorities. Prioritise wisely – Understand what needs your attention most, and address it mindfully. Time management – Allocate time to tasks realistically and efficiently. Pre-planning – Plan your day the night before. This helps you prepare mentally for the day ahead. Practice mindful pauses – Take short breaks to reflect and realign, especially during busy periods.
CC: Do you play any game that benefits your work-life? What life lessons has it taught you?
Yes, I enjoy playing cricket with friends whenever time permits. The sport teaches essential life and business skills—focus, resilience, strategy and adaptability. Just like in cricket, life presents different challenges and how you respond— whether defensively or aggressively—determines your outcomes. It’s a wonderful metaphor for professional decision-making.
CC: What is the secret of your success?
The foundation of success, in my view, is gratitude. Recognising that everything we have is a temporary blessing, allows us to remain grounded. I also believe in the power of manifestation—visualising not only what we want, but also the positive impact it can create in our lives and the lives of others.
Another crucial element is maintaining a family-like culture at work. Our team operates with oneness and shared purpose, rooted in Indian traditions and ethics. This philosophy of unity and inclusivity has driven much of our success.
CC: What message would you like to give to young professionals about managing time, hobbies and careers?
Plan your day in advance. Before going to bed, list out your tasks and priorities for the next day. This helps you mentally prepare for both simple and complex challenges. You’ll find yourself working more efficiently with a clear schedule. As for hobbies, they are needed for striking the right balance. Hobbies help disconnect from routine and allow creative and emotional rejuvenation.
CC: Can you define yourself in one sentence?
I would describe myself as a proud Sanatani (one who follows the eternal way), deeply rooted in tradition and purpose.
CC. What dreams are yet to be fulfilled?
My dream is to establish ENTOD Pharmaceuticals as a global innovator in eye care—not just a leader in India, but a benchmark in ophthalmology worldwide.
CC: Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
I see myself continuing as the CEO of ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, leading a much larger, globally diversified organisation—especially with a strong presence across the Global South.
