Blowing My Own Trumpet

We bring you some of the selective excerpts from the editorials written by our Editor-In-Chief, Late Prof. Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian—the innovative ideas and creativeness is the basic value of these editorials. When we compare the present with the past, we may say “Nothing is said that has not been said before”.
When you elect a new government, can’t it take a decision of its choice? If it can’t, then where is the democracy? After all, people have elected the government for a five-year term. If you think it has proved to be regressive, you can throw it out after five years, but you cannot make a mountain out of a molehill each time some decision is taken. The opposition has every right to oppose, in fact it is its privilege, but it should play the role of a constructive opposition and the country’s interest should be kept in mind. When I fractured my right leg, last year, I was recuperating at the Ramachandra Hospital, in Chennai, for a month. This break, from my otherwise hectic schedule, made me realise, that I had reached the age of 70 and the time available to me is very less now. So, I should start doing all the constructive things I wanted to do. One of them was to bring out a magazine. Thus was conceived the idea of ‘Corporate Citizen’ which is doing so well (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 19, December 1, 2014)
Corporate Citizens will be the heroes
The miraculous realisation of two war memorials (in Pune) by citizens is a classic example of how we, as citizens, can play a pro-active role in governance and bring about the change that we want to see and be. It also points out to the fact that if the idea which has been conceived is carried out with precision and with a focused mind, it will succeed. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 9, May 16, 2015)
Why shouldn’t I myself do something in my individual capacity? Why should I wait for someone else to pick up the gauntlet? I believe, each one of us must contribute our bit to our society in a way that is possible for us by taking up an issue that is close to our hearts. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 15, October 1, 2015)
It was the provocation which motivated me to reach to that height. By repeatedly trying to push me down, my classmates had actually instilled the spirit in me to fight back. The credit for my performance thus goes to the students. Hence, remember, when you get pushed to the corner by your adversaries, understand, you are equally strong. I consider it to be my good fortune to have got acquainted with the Roaring Tiger, who was so magnanimous and gentle hearted. Every meeting that I had with Balasaheb Thackeray proved to be an educating experience. Whenever I met him, I could not help but get impressed with his forthrightness, quickness in spotting the qualities of fellow human beings, courage of conviction in whatever he pursued, and his deep concern about providing quality education to the masses. What is it that inspires people to work? Is it the money, is it the job satisfaction, is it happiness, or is it power or authority? All these, according to me, are hygiene factors which give momentary pleasure; none of these have the power of giving you enduring happiness. Only recognition inspires. Men may come and men may go. The chair remains the same; people who occupy it keep changing. However, the impact and influence which they leave behind, live for decades. For a small person like me, the lesson is that the world is good, the people are good, people want to be good and people ought to be good. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 23, February 1, 2016)
Army is not a service sector, nor is it a place for normal career. Here, martyrdom is the goal. The country comes first. The safety and security of the people of the country is foremost, but not the family. The uniform converts a person into a soldier and he metamorphoses into an altogether different character, attitude, knowledge and skills. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 16, October 16, 2015)

I present to you this unique fortnightly with the theme, the cool side of business, wherein inspiring stories of leaders and relevant issues of the corporate world would be narrated in a down-to-earth and delightful manner. The world belongs to those who are in power. If you are out of power, you are out of sight, out of mind. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 7, June 1, 2016)
What matters is the idea, the thought and the determination to be philanthropic, despite having modest earnings. Also, I never considered it as doing any favour, nor was I yearning for anything in return, when I extended my arms for giving charity. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 14, September 16, 2015)
One personality rises above pettiness and embraces magnanimity. The other, develops a vicious mindset and turns against the person who provided him the golden opportunity, in effect, turning against society. Politicians should rise above pettiness and embrace magnanimity, in order to win faith of the people. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 5, February 16, 2015)
My day came through adversities that seemed impregnable, but in retrospect, I feel a sense of triumph and would like to attribute it to the favourable twist of destiny. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 6, March 1, 2015)
There is a general impression that Consumer is King only in USA and other developed countries. The Indian customer is often seen as one at the receiving end of bad buys, poor service and questionably quality of products. (CC Archive: Volume 1, Issue 2, November 1, 2014)
